A Family Physician is a specialist in the breadth of general medicine rather than one organ. That makes them the right person for the patient whose problem crosses several systems, or whose treatment has stopped working and nobody is sure why.
They work alongside our GPs rather than instead of them, so being referred internally does not mean starting your history again.
